- 1. How much extra does QuikBatt’n cost than traditional timber?
A: QuikBatt’n is cost comparative to traditional 38x38 pine batten and most customers would see a reduced cost if using hardwood battens.
- 2. How much faster is it to install QuikBatt’n steel batten compared to timber?
A: Installation times vary dependent on roof complexity and how experienced the tiler is in using the product. It has been noted that some trades experience a 40-50% reduction in installation times compared to hardwood battens.
- 3. Do I need to purchase any additional tools to install QuikBatt’n steel battens compared to traditional timber?
A: QuikBatt’n steel battens are installed using the same tools as trades currently use with timber battens. To cut, some trades prefer the use of tin snips or a small grinder or you can replace the blade on a circular saw for a steel cutting blade if preferred.
- 4. Is the QuikBatt’n system certified for use on timber and steel frames?
A: YES. The QuikBatt’n system is certified by an external structural engineer on both timber and steel frames.
- 5. Can I use std 75mm D head framing nails to install QuikBatt’n tile battens and will I use the same quantity if installing timber battens?
A: YES. Std D head framing nails are used to install QuikBatt’n tile battens. Nails are fired into the battens using a Paslode or similar gas gun and the same quantity of nails are used as per timber.
Tool Checklist
With efficiency being a stand out feature of Quikbatt’n very few tools are required to install: Paslode or similar first fix nail gun with 75mm D head nails, battery operated grinder for hip cuts and cold galvanising spray for protecting hot cut ends. An alternative to hot cutting is to use tin snips or a circular saw with a steel cutting blade for a cold cut. If cold cutting, there is no requirement for cold galvanising spray to be used.
